Last week, Qatar’s Mutaz Essa Barshim flirted with rewriting long-established gravitational laws, by clearing 2.43 meters (7.972 feet) in the high jump. As amazing as his jump was, it’s still under Javier Sotomayor’s mind-boggling world record of 2.45 meters.

To put Barshim’s jumping ability in perspective, consider this; he could literally jump over any NBA player, past or present, without touching a hair on his head.

Better yet, imagine the dunks Barshim could put down. Why bother just dunking the ball when you could go through the hoop as well — like the flubber-powered basketball player in Disney’s 1961 classic “The Absent-Minded Professor” — or the dude at the Phoenix Suns halftime show.
